Marcel Gotène Furniture
Marcel Gotène (Icon of the contemporary Bantu art) combines surrealistic impressions with modern tapisserie elements. He was born in 1935 in Yaba, Republic of Congo and died in February 2013 in Rabat, Maroc. He served an apprenticeship at the art school of Poto-Poto (Ecole de Peinture de Poto-Poto). As from 1954, he participated in international expositions in France, Belgium, Italy, Senegal, Togo and Gabon. From 1963 to 1975 Gotene lived in France. He was awarded with Grand Prix France Afrique by "Société Internationale de Beaux Arts, Grand Prix Public (Médaille de Léonard de Vinci) by "Academie Internationale de Lutèce in 1972, Premier Prix of the President of the Republic of Congo in 1979, Grand Prix of the President of the Republic of Gabon in 1998. In 2013, he got a special state funeral in his homeland Republic of Congo.
