Katie Eleanor
British, b. 1993
Katie Eleanor (b.1993) is a photographic artist living and working in London. She studied Photographic Arts at the University of Westminster, graduating in 2015. Her practice revolves around illustrating enigmatic narratives that bridge the gap between fantasy and reality. Once she has a concept for her stories, she paints the performers, designs and makes the costumes, and creates the sets to photograph them.
Using analogue photography and contemporary printing techniques, the resulting black and white prints are then meticulously hand- coloured by the artist. Katie's work has received press by The Royal Photographic Society, and her fashion stories have been published by magazines such as Hunger and Notion.
Her latest body of work, The Sialia Marbles, presented at MMX Gallery, was her second exhibition in the gallery and her first solo show.
Her work has been recently sold to numerous private art and photography collections.(Biography provided by MMX Gallery)

Hand-coloured portrait of a regal monarch, immobilised in marble, her reigning celebrated the blooms she becomes entwined in. The characterisation is inspired by visual depictions of Lady Macbeth, in particular, John Singer Sargent’s 1889 portrait of actress Ellen Terry.

'Saint Wanderer’s Hospital' series depicts a fictional tale birthed from the artist’s inherent need to find splendour in the idea of sickness.
Rooted first from her own words, Katie used the idea of illustrating as a form of personal art therapy by immersing herself in the realm of the otherworldly characters. Every aspect of each scene was created by Katie alone, from building and designing the sets to printing and hand-colouring the final images. In this act, over the year long course of the projects creation, the artist managed to make certain turmoil in her personal life bearable.
In the world of the hospital, the artist adapts the role of medical photographer – creating accurate portraits of each character’s condition as a record for the hospitals future use.

Kate Garner evolved in the edgy pop-punk heyday of 1980’s London. By the time she was in her early 20s, she was well on her way to becoming one of the most enigmatic fine art photographers of our time. But it didn’t start that way. Until Kate was 19, she had spent most of her time in a tough mining town in the north of England. It was a practical place with practical people that studied practical vocations and couldn't afford to let themselves dream too much.
Growing up, Kate had expected a similar existence, but it was never what she had envisioned. Like much of her class, she attended formal trade education at the local vocational college after graduating secondary school and spending a year hitch-hiking from England, through Europe, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan to India Garner came back from India and started to study commercial photography, and in Northern England, that meant--pots and pans. But, Kate knew she was different and would often take herself down into the thriving metropolis of London to see and experience the vibrant Mecca of arts and creatives.
Her creative path took a pivotal point when her wanderings introduced her to the Blitz Kids. The art students and teenage squatters took her in, and It wasn’t long before she began shooting the streets with London’s party scene artisans and gender-bending pioneers. Working with John Galliano, Stephen Jones, Boy George, and later even David Bowie--Kate became fully immersed in the New Romantic...
