Magnificent large BROOCH, vintage, by Karl LAGERFELD, signed, diameter 5.7 cm, weight 37 g, very good state. Born in Hamburg, Karl Lagerfeld settled in Paris in 1954. His design of a coat won him the International Wool Secretariat and allowed him to work for the famous couturier Pierre Balmain. He then became the designer for Jean Patou. Because of his ability to revive and reimagine brands that had stagnated, in 1984 Lagerfeld was given the reins of Chanel. Lagerfeld's collections for Chanel, in particular, testify to his talent for synthesizing the old and the new. From Watteau (spring-summer 1985 couture) and Serge Roche (spring-summer 1990 ready-to-wear) to hip-hop fly girls (fall-winter 1991 ready-to-wear), surfers (ready-to-wear Spring-Summer 2003) and Ancient Egypt (Pre-Fall 2019), Lagerfeld drew inspiration from each season to redesign Chanel signatures.
