A pair of Berlin Iron Earrings that are feather weight and look like fine lace swirls. The earrings have a gold ear wire were made from a Geiss necklace that e to c.1820. During the Napoleonic wars, Germany asked their citizens to turn in their gold jewelry to support the war effort that depleted the treasury of Germany. Wealthy aristocrats did so and in return were rewarded with jewelry made of iron in intricate designs. The Berlin Iron jewelry became highly desired in Europe. The wealthy requested their ambassadors to bring home examples for them. Eventually Napoleon raided the foundries and stole molds for Berlin Iron. He commanded his jewelers to make iron jewels...

Amazing Georgian paste earrings in the most extraordinary shade of lime green from the early 19th Century. Set in a scalloped 14k gold setting around each stone.
Georgian earrings of this quality, scale and color are so incredibly rare. The faceting is exquisite.
This pair unfortunately is not perfect. There is a little sliver of glass missing from the top point edge of one of the ear pendants. It is not very noticeable when worn but is visible when closely examined. There is also a chip on oval stone of same earring.
The surreal color of the lime green glass paste probably has much to do with the minerals used its manufacture. These are minerals which are obviously no longer used so this color is not replicable. The original fittings have been changed to clips later on.

A fabulous early 19th century Berlin iron work bracelet with a central knight cameo panel masterfully crafted around 1820. Iron work jewellery are synonymous displays of patriotism and sacrifice, believed to have begun in 1804 in the Berlin Royal Factory, the Prussian state urged wealthy families to donate their costly jewellery to the war effort and the struggle against Napoleon.
