Yann Guillon is a French sculptor born in 1962 who studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. His oeuvre is characterized by depictions of the human body, especially bodies in motion. The recurrence of athletes and dancers in his pieces exemplifies this interest. In these bodies captured in full effort, the artist seeks to accentuate the tension and twisting to invite us to see this energy, through which the bronze sculptures express some of the mystery and grace of each human being.

Yann Guillon
Depictions of the human body play a predominant role in Yann Guillon’s work. In these bodies captured in full effort, particularly athletes and dancers, the artist seeks to accentuate the tension and twisting to invite us to see this energy, through which the bronze sculptures express some of the mystery and grace of each human being. His direct carving technique and his forays into abstract sculpture allow him to explore other languages and other registers in sculpture. “When I’m working, I try to keep the first movement, the first energy from the feeling of the sculpture, so I always try to stand back, to work on several sculptures at the same time, to find a balance between raw, spontaneous sculpture and at the same time a finished sculpture.“

Pisapia's "Expedition Series," inspired by sea voyages, is about meeting life’s challenges with courage and purpose. It connects to the idea expressed by J.W. Goethe: “Character is formed in the stormy billows of the world.” Taking up life’s tasks can require one to go against the wind. The feeling of determination to achieve and continue steering through obstacles is poured into the pure forms; a dynamic balancing of the straight and curve on different axes. "With a rounded starting point," Pisapia explains, "I add on a variety of disparate angles, diverse curves, and twisting planes. I carve and smooth the surfaces, bringing out particular tensions and transitions." Flavius Valone Pisapia is an Italian-Romanian artist born in Bucharest in 1981. He has had several solo exhibitions in India and his artwork is found in private collections worldwide. "It's important for me to experience the world at a deeper level by penetrating the veil of the senses. Through an immersive process the essence, beauty and the pure form of an idea are gradually revealed to me. The emerging awareness flows into my artwork imbuing it with a higher reality. To achieve this awareness in my creative process, I go through three stages: imagination, inspiration and intuition." - Flavius PisapiaCategory

- Stand-Ins for Period of Wreckage 25By Theaster GatesLocated in Palm Desert, CAA sculpture by Theaster Gates. "Stand-Ins for Period of Wreckage 25" is a contemporary sculpture, white concrete and porcelain by American, Blue Chip artist Theaster Gates. The artwork is unsigned. Theaster Gates' practice includes sculpture, installation, performance and urban interventions that aim to bridge the gap between art and life. Gates works as an artist, curator, urbanist and facilitator and his projects attempt to instigate the creation of cultural communities by acting as catalysts for social engagement that leads to political and spatial change. Gates has described his working method as “critique through collaboration” – often with architects, researchers and performers – to create works that stretch the idea of what we usually understand visual-based practices to be. For his exhibition at Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition in 2010, for example, Gates invited a 250 strong gospel choir into the galleries to sing songs adapted from the inscriptions on pots by the famous 19th century slave and potter 'Dave Drake'. For the 2010 Whitney Biennial, Gates transformed the Whitney’s Sculpture Court with a spare, architectural installation that functioned as a communal gathering space for performances, social engagement, and contemplation. For the duration of the exhibition Gates collaborated with various creative practitioners on a series of 'monastic residencies', holding live events such as the session by Gates' musical ensemble, the Black Monks of Mississippi. In another recent exhibition at Seattle Art Museum, Gates transformed the gallery into an audio archive entitled 'The Listening Room', incorporating a hand-built DJ...Category
