Carbon M by Tom Price - Sculpture and bench, coal, Jesmonite, wood, steel

2016

About the Item

Carbon M is a unique sculpture by contemporary artist Tom Price. This sculpture is made of coal, Jesmonite, wood, steel, dimensions are 45 cm × 220 cm × 35 cm (17.7 × 86.6 × 13.8 in). This artwork is available on commission. It will be created on the same basis as shown in the images and under the same conditions. Each piece is unique due to the creative process used. Carbon Bench is one of Tom Price's 'hybrid' artworks sitting halfway between art and design: the piece can be seen exclusively as a sculpture or can also serve as a bench. Here, the dark and opaque coal is the indisputable protagonist; the viewer can admire the texture, the cracks and tonal differences. Coal is one of the artist's preferred mediums. The aesthetic qualities of it, especially their darkness and opacity, as well as their inherent and practical qualities, are admired by the artist. Indeed, one of the purest forms of carbon, the building block of all known life, is found in coal, which is also a crucial source of energy for people. Tom Price gained a firm mastery in this medium through experimentation, and he now uses it to create a wide range of artwork. Photos: Jaroslav Moravec
