Tien Wen
Naos by Tien Wen - Abstract ceramic sculpture, pure form, raku technique, black

2008

About the Item

Naos is a unique ceramic sculpture by contemporary artist Tien Wen, dimensions are 68 × 25 × 23 cm (26.8 × 9.8 × 9.1 in). The sculpture is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The sculpture has a metallic quality that is similar to bronze because of the raku technique, which is dear to the artist. The inner chamber of any temple, whether Greek, Egyptian, or even Orthodox, is the inspiration for the name of this piece. This is the location of the god's image. A god statue dominated the chamber in Greek temples. Tien Wen naturally concentrated her work on pottery at the end of the 1990s due to her early fascination with Chinese porcelains, particularly the colours, enamel and celadons. As the years went by, the artist's love of shapes and the material itself led her to abandon the functional aspect and create more abstract works. The artist just follows her instinct and makes pieces in accordance with the lines that come to mind, giving her a clear vision of the finished product, while looking for the purest of shapes.
