LET 'ER RIP! (Vibrantly Colorful Wall Sculpture by Stephen Walling)

2024

About the Item

Geometric, colorful Modern wall sculpture by Stephen Walling painted wood on panel 24 x 36 inches Hangs flush to the wall Signed on verso The artworks of Stephen Walling are difficult to neatly categorize. They exist somewhere between wall sculpture and painting, as the artist builds up shallow surfaces with blocks of painted wood to explore color, texture, and the conversation between shadows and light. "LET 'ER RIP!" is a playful composition that calls to mind an assortment of tiny landscapes. About the artist: Stephen Walling’s painted wood constructions incorporate both a playful usage of color with geometry and a dialogue with nature using a monochrome color scheme. Walling understands the power of design and color as proved by his experience as an award winning Art Director for Conde Nast Publications. Walling’s constructions revel in a three-dimensionality incorporating color and shadow. Some of the geometric pieces have a spatial presence that creates an optical illusion. Others are like puzzles with fitted pegs and blocks of wood. Several of Walling’s works inspired by nature have a lyrical quality. They are monotone in color and make references to organic forms. The painted wood shards are delicately assembled with the cut edges facing the viewer to create the look of a dense forest.

  • From Dusk To Dawn - Sculptural Geometric Abstract Metallic Wall Artwork
    By Hugo Urrutia
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Born in 1974 in Mexico, Hugo Urrutia is a multidisciplinary artist-designer, interested in the cross-pollination between art and architecture. His artwork challenges the notion of what constitutes a piece of art. As a graduate and active member of the Architectural Association in the United Kingdom, Urrutia's work creates a distinct spatiality located at the interstice of art and architecture. His work explores and uses technology for design and fabrication, with a sensitive and conscious reminder of the creativity of human endeavor. This original artwork is created with oil lacquer paint on carved Baltic birch. This wall sculpture measures 29 inches high by 38 inches wide and has a depth of 5 inches. In this series titled "Flexible Rigids", Urrutia explores sculptural forms that simulate smooth harmonic movements of a flexible surface, initiating the process from a “rigid “surface. The artwork is signed by the artist on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique artwork. Urrutia graduated from the Architectural Association in 2013, earning a Master of Architecture in the Design & Make programme. In 2000, he graduated from Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Architecture and Design and received the 2000 Outstanding Thesis Award. In 2004, he founded Decorazon Gallery in Dallas’ Bishop Arts District where he curated and exhibited numerous art exhibitions for national and international artists. His personal artwork has been exhibited worldwide.
