About the Item
Growing up immersed in creativity, Mia Fonssagrives-Solow has been making art nearly
her entire life, working with any material she had available. Solow first made a name for
herself in fashion, which was perhaps to be expected between her father, beauty
photographer Fernand Fonssagrives; her mother, super model Lisa Fonssagrives; and her
step-father, famed fashion photographer Irving Penn.
Over her prolific career, several bodies of work have emerged, all of which act as
windows to the artist’s life, a life which like all others is filled with pain and joy but is
inspiring in its focus on loving relationships and celebratory occasions. Somehow even in
the completely abstract form, Solow herself comes across: we see her lust for life and
sense of humor in everything she touches.
Solow lives and works in East Hampton, New York. She has shown her sculptures
extensively in California and New York. Solow’s window displays have been featured at
Cartier and Bergdorf Goodman. Her jewelry has been featured at Gagosian Gallery,
Grey Area, and Foundation Maeght in Paris, as well as other shops and venues. Her
sculpture is widely collected both privately and publicly
