Circa 1930 Original art deco advertising poster - Renault

Circa 1930

About the Item

Founded in 1899, the Renault Frères family business grew so fast that by 1918 it was the largest factory in France, capable of producing the full range of motorized vehicles, from cars to armored vehicles, including railcars and aircraft engines... Until 1939 Renault built luxury models with six or even eight cylinders, more renowned for their careful construction than for the originality of their technique, and whose lines suffered from the aerodynamic evolution. The model presented on this poster is the Renault Celtastandard. Automobile - Advertising - Art Deco - Renault Special of Renault factories

    By Nura Ulreich
    Located in Santa Cruz, CA
Signed lower right 'Nura' for Nura Woodson Ulreich (American, 1899–1950) above copyright information 'Nura W. Ulreich' and dated 1938. The poem below the figure of Summer reads: "Shimmer of heat from the hot dust road. Cold is the mud where the fern grows deep. Flower-scented atmosphere- peaceful sleep. Humming Bird daintily poised on its way. Velvet the night- iridescent the day. Showers and thunder, soft rainbows. Beauty incarnate in delicate clothes. This is the saga of Summer. " This painter, illustrator, muralist, lithographer, author and poet first studied at the Kansas City Art Institute before attending the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Students League in New York. Nura Woodson then studied under John French Sloan and, later, with Frederic Gruger. She subsequently moved to Paris where she lived and painted for several years and where she met and married her husband, the Hungarian-American artist Buk Ulreich. While in France, she exhibited with success, including at the Salon d'Automne, and began to paint under the brush name, 'Nura'. After returning to the United States, Ulreich continued to exhibit widely, including at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Corcoran Galleries Biennials (1928-39), the Salons of America, the Society of Independent Artists (1928, 1941) and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (1929-1931).
