SPANISH STILL LIFE WITH GARLIC by the Spanish artist Carlos Pradal, is an original hand drawn, stone lithograph printed by hand in Paris France using traditional hand lithography techniques on buff color archival printmaking paper, 100% acid free. SPANISH STILL LIFE WITH GARLIC presents an expressionist-style still life vegetable portrait depicting round onions with a head of garlic positioned toward the center. A broad sweeping brushstroke wash of charcoal black dominates the background creating a dramatic staging for the red and orange vegetable shapes; the off white color of the paper forms the garlic bulb creating contrast for this expressive, energetic Spanish still life composition. Print size - 17 x 20.25 inches, unframed, very good condition, pencil signed by Pradal, inscribed E.A.(Epreuve Artiste) with personal dedication to the master printer Image size - 13 x 16.25 inches Year - c. 1974 About the artist: Carlos Pradal(1923-1988) Spanish ceramist, painter and illustrator was the son of Republican deputy Gabriel Pradal from Almeria, Andalusia. In 1939, his family was forced into exile and settled in France, in Toulouse. In 1956 he obtained a Spanish license and became an auxiliary teacher. He practiced drawing and painting at the same time, following the lessons of Raoul Bergougnan. In 1972, he moved to Paris, where he became a friend of the painters Peinado and Orlando Pelayo. When Franco died, he returned to Spain where he exhibited regularly. Former student of the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse. In 1986, the Musée des Augustins de Toulouse devoted a major retrospective to him.

Print size - 21.5 x 28.25 inches, unframed, excellent condition Edition size - 175 Year published - 1978 Lowell Blair Nesbitt (October 4, 1933 - July 8, 1993) was an American painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. He studied at Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Nesbitt worked in abstraction until Robert Indiana suggested in the early 1960s that he explore realism in his paintings. As subjects for his work he favored studio interiors, articles of clothing, piles of shoes, his Rottweiler, the Neo-Classical facades of 19th century cast iron buildings, and Manhattan's bridges. He was also famous for his enormous paintings and prints of roses, lilies, irises, and other flowers. He served as the official artist for the NASA Apollo 9, and Apollo 13 space missions; in 1976 the United States Navy commissioned him to paint a mural in the administration building on Treasure Island spanning 26 feet x 251 feet, then the largest mural in the United States; and in 1980 the United States Postal Service honored Lowell Nesbitt by issuing four postage stamps depicting his paintings. His first solo exhibition was mounted at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 1958 and during his lifetime he had more than 130 solo exhibitions of his work at various galleries, museums, and universities, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Kent State University, the McNay Art Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Burpee Art Museum, and the Tyler Gallery...

    "Crystal and Jade" Still Life Lithograph in Ink on Paper Delicate and detailed lithograph of a crystal glass and jade vase by John Taylor Arms (American, 1887-1953). On the left side of the composition, there is a crystal martini glass, with intricate designs. Next to it is a jade vase or urn, with a carved surface. They are sitting on an ornate tablecloth, with a strand of beads, possibly a rosary. Numbered ("VI"), inscribed with a dedication ("To Georgiana Brewer and Jasper S. Mathews Jr from Dorothy and John Taylor Arms"), signed ("John Taylor Arms"), and dated ("1940") along the bottom edge. Presented in a wood frame with an off-white mat. Frame size: 16.5"H x 14.75"W Image size: 8.5"H x 7.25"W John Taylor Arms was born in Washington, DC in 1887. He studied law at Princeton University, transferring to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, to study architecture, graduating in 1912. After serving as an officer in the United States Navy during World War I, he devoted himself full-time to etching. He published his first original etchings in 1919. His initial subject was the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City near which he worked. Arms developed a successful career as a graphic artist in the 1920s and 1930s, specializing in series of etchings of Gothic churches and cathedrals in France and Italy. In addition to medieval subjects, Arms made a series of prints of American cities. He used sewing needles and magnifying glasses to get a fine level of detail. A member of many printmaking societies, Arms served as president of the Society of American Graphic Artists. An educator, Arms wrote the Handbook of Print Making and Print Makers (1934) and did numerous demonstrations and lectures. Arms was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member in 1930, and became a full member in 1933. His work was also part of the painting event in the art competition at the 1932 Summer Olympics...
