About the Item
Paul Jacoulet
Title: Fumess de Santal. Mandchoukuo. (Sandalwood Smoke)
Woodblock Print
Edition one of 350, edition number is on the back, but it is trimmed
Date 1948
This is one of Jacoulet's most successful horizontal compositions. The traditional gauffrage (embossing) on the brilliantly composed gown is one of his best effects in combination with the pale grey and blue tile that seems as soft as a pillow. The grey smoke of the burning sandalwood undulates from the Ching Dynasty incense burner.
