Six Mark Stones is a black and white etching on rosaspina Fabriano watermarked paper, realized in 1976 by the English pop artist, Joe Tilson, and published by La Nuova Foglio, a publishing house of Macerata as the dry-stamp reportes on the lower right corner. Image dimensions: 28.4x37.8 cm. Hand-signed, dated and numbered in pencil on lower margin. Edition of 100 prints. In excellent conditions. This a plate is from the Wessex Portfolio, a collection of seven etchings with aquatint and six screenprinted poems on rosaspina paper by Joe Tilson; and represents six mark stones as the title points. Composed by three different etchings, each of these titled on the right margin, the general composition is a wonderful final effect. A copy of the same print is preserved at the Tate Gallery. Claes Oldenberg (b.1929) is a Swedish-born American artist, renowned for his contribution to Pop art by way of his iconic soft sculptures and public installations. In 1962, Oldenburg debuted his revolutionary soft sculptures at the Green Gallery in New York. Three giant, squishy sculptures of an ice cream cone, a hamburger, and a slice of cake, swelled across the gallery floor, forever changing the way we define sculpture. It has been noted that Oldenburg's early work was largely inspired by Yayoi Kusama's hand-sewn phallic-shaped soft sculptures that enveloped the surfaces of ironing boards, sofas, and boats.
