This review was founded in 1897 in the continuity of the review Les Beaux-Arts published between 1861 and 1865; Jules Comte, the founder, entitled his first issue Les Beaux-Arts - Revue nouvelle then changed the title to La Revue de l'art ancien et moderne. Jules Comte directed the review until his death in 1912. Raymond Woog took over , who was provisional director until the start of the war in July 1914. In 1919, André Dezarrois took over this review and was its director until December 1937, date of last issue (published in January 1938). In the meantime, it publishes the Bulletin of ancient and modern art, which has gained a certain notoriety in the community.
Biography:
Tony Minartz, pseudonym of Antoine Guillaume, born 8 April 1873 to Cannes and died in that city on 13 December 1944 Is a painter, draftsman , illustrator and engraver French.
Painter autodidact , Tony Minartz starts to become known in 1896 by exhibiting paintings at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts , and then decorates the Pompadour theater of painted panels for fashion shows " Grand Guignol ", directed by L. Darthenay. In 1903, Henri Béraldi , with whom he worked, praised him in The Journal of ancient and modern art, writing that "it was thirty years ago," and he has received advice from Paul Renouard to be formed the technique of etching ; Béraldi adds that his favorite subjects are "Paris at night Paris at night, always." Minartz also gives them some high-remarkable in The Journal of ancient and modern art until 1910: balls, cafe concerts, Parisian in their most beautiful dresses, but also music-halls, music halls, restaurants, large and small theaters, are the preferred settings of his compositions.
Its fertile period seems to end in 1914. In addition to the National Salon, Minartz exhibited in Paris at the gallery Bartholomew (1903), the Independent Living (1905, 1906) and the gallery Devambez (1909) and received the Academic Palms . Mark Catesby's The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands is generally credited as the first published work to provide illustrations and descriptions of North American flora and fauna. From 1722-1726 Catesby, an English naturalist, ranged over South Carolina, Georgia and the Bahamas sketching and collecting specimens of native plants and animals.
Skunks are North and South American mammals in the family Mephitidae. While related to polecats and other members of the weasel family, skunks have as their closest Old World relatives the stink badgers. The animals are known for their ability to spray a liquid with a strong, unpleasant scent.
Biography:
Mark Catesby (24 March 1683 – 23 December 1749) was an English naturalist. Between 1729 and 1747 Catesby published his Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, the first published account of the flora and fauna of North America. It included 220 plates of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, mammals and plants. Mark Catesby's The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands is generally credited as the first published work to provide illustrations and descriptions of North American flora and fauna. From 1722-1726 Catesby, an English naturalist, ranged over South Carolina, Georgia and the Bahamas sketching and collecting specimens of native plants and animals. Little is known of Catesby's early life. He was born in eastern England in 1683. Although Catesby does not appear to have attended university or studied for the Bar, he was sufficiently educated to write clear English and Latin. His interest in and knowledge of plants may have derived from his uncle, who maintained a botanical garden. First invented in the 1500s, etching is a way of incising lines in a metal plate by first drawing on an acid-resistant coating, or ground, to reveal the metal beneath. The plate is then submerged in acid, which “bites” the lines into the metal plate. The ground is then removed and the plate inked for pressing. Etched lines tend to reveal the movement of the artist’s hand more than a technique like engraving, since the image is created on a softer ground.
“People often ask me what types of prints they should collect — etchings or woodcuts or linocuts or silkscreens or lithographs or whatever,” explains Ryan Cross, associate director of Boston’s Barbara Krakow Gallery. “But it’s really more how the artist used those processes and what he or she was trying to express through the medium.”
