Image dimensions: 9.3 x 16 cm. Plan de la Nouvelle Orléans is an interesting black and white lithograph on paper, realized in 1880 by an anonymous artist. Original Title: Plan de la partie de la Nouvelle Orléans où se sont passés les évènements du 14 7bre 1874 This original print is an illustration for an article in French "La Conquete Blanche" for the newspaper "Le Tour du Monde" and is a toponomastic map of the city of New Orleans, theatre of the Battle of Liberty Place, or Battle of Canal Street : an attempted insurrection by the Crescent City White League against the Reconstruction Era Louisiana state government on September 14, 1874,. Five thousand members of the White League, a paramilitary made up largely of Confederate veterans, fought against the outnumbered New Orleans Metropolitan Police and state militia. A historical piece to collect! In very good conditions, except for a visible yellow stain on higher left corner, this beautiful modern artwork is mounted in a white cardboard passepartout, cm 24 x 30. On the back, another illustration portraying the general Marc Enery and realized by E. Ronjat. On the back visible worn margins.
