Circolo dell'Arcadia - Original Albumen Print on Cardboard - Early 20th Century

Early 20th Century

About the Item

Circolo dell'Arcadia portrayed with the italian pet Trilussa is a vintage albumen print applied on cardboard, realized between 1900 and 1902. This big-size photographic print comes from enlargement of smaller glass negative film, therefore is characterized by low contrast and many scratches that have not been hand-retouched. On front lower edge some handwritten notes in pencil with a list of portrayed characters. Good conditions, some signs printed by original negative film. Folds and scratches on cardboard. Dim: cm 30,5 x 44 In the picture, shoted inside Palazzo Lascaris in Turin, from the right are portrayed: Cesare Biscarra, Giacomo Grasso and Trilussa. Giorgio Ceragioli (in the center), Edoardo Rubino, Angelo Bizzetti (poet and president of the club), Giovanni Costa and Felice Giani. Behind the group of artists is visible the large portrait of Countess Lovadina Tiretta, a lost masterpiece by Giacomo Grasso, on the right an unpublished portrait of Pascarella (as described in the handwritten note). This unpublished, extraordinary photograph comes from the collection of the painter Giorgio Ceragioli (1861-1947). The scene reproduced in the picture represents a unique testimony, for the characters portrayed (including a very rare image of the twenty-year-old poet Trilussa) and also to taste a unique artistic context that includes the interiors of Palazzo Lascaris and the images of important paintings lost during the second World War.
