Richard Diebenkorn
High Green, Version I

1992

About the Item

"High Green, Version I" is an aquatint print by Richard Diebenkorn, made in 1992. It is number 46 from an edition of 65. The work is signed in pencil, lower right, "RD 92". The artwork size is 41 x 24 inches. The framed size is 56 3/4 x 38 1/2 x 2 inches. "High Green, Version I" could be traced back to Diebenkorn’s experience of looking out the window of an airplane and being struck by the landscape’s abstract structure. In the print’s “high” region, a bright green form is linked by a dark V, which acts like a visual retaining wall, keeping the upper region from eroding and seeping into the expanse of blue below. Richard Diebenkorn is best known for bringing a distinctly West Coast perspective to Abstract Expressionism. Mainly working with oil and acrylic, the artist made layered, gestural, and geometric paintings that took inspiration from American landscapes. Diebenkorn exhibited across the United States and, in 1978, represented the nation at the Venice Biennale. His work can be found in institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago the Los Angeles County Museum of Art the Phillips Collection, and the Whitney Museum American of Art, among others. Provenance: Crown Point Press, San Francisco, California Private Collection, acquired from the above
