Slim Aarons
Slim Aarons Poolside Poodle Limited Estate Edition

1970 (printed later)

About the Item

Poolside Poodle by Slim Aarons Set to become another true Slim Aarons Classic - it's better known cousins 'Poolside Gossip' and 'Desert House Party' (also listed) are considered to be true modern masterpieces of photography - and this new Archive discovery from the same series is no exception. A poolside party at a desert house, designed by Richard Neutra for Edgar J. Kaufmann, in Palm Springs, January 1970. This photograph was taken during the same party as Slim Aaron's now also iconic 'Desert House Party' photograph (see our other listings) and is just as much a true moment of an era captured on film. Nelda Linsk (in yellow), wife of art dealer Joseph Linsk, and Helen Dzo Dzo (seated left) and friend centre in hat. Note new to this classic composition is a fluffy white poodle on the right :) This photograph epitomises the Travel, Lifestyle and Glamour of the period's wealthy and famous, and spirit of vacation, beautifully documented by Aarons. In his words, he loved to photograph 'beautiful people in beautiful places, doing beautiful things'. A beautiful and classic Slim Aarons C-type photograph, Limited Edition to 150 only (per image) numbered and stamped by The Slim Aarons Estate on verso. Supplied with certificate of authenticity. Gorgeous print measuring an extra large 60 x 40" inches / ca 152 x 101 cm's. (printed on a 60x40" paper size) Produced utilising the original transparency held at archive source. Printed this year. Ormond Gigli Girls in the Window, 1960 (printed later) Color coupler print 60 x 60 inches Edition of 4 Signed, numbered and dated by the artist Ormond Gigli: The Visionary Behind the "Girls in the Windows" Ormond Gigli is a highly regarded American photojournalist, best known for his breathtaking portraiture and surreal fashion photography. With a career spanning over four decades, Gigli's visual narratives have appeared in prominent international publications such as TIME, LIFE, Paris Match, and Colliers. Gigli began his journey in the 1950s, gaining recognition for his captivating photographs of theater, film, and dance. His subjects were a medley of cultural icons - Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Anita Ekberg, Marcel Duchamp, Willem de Kooning, John F. Kennedy, Halston, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Laurence Olivier, Alan Bates, Richard Burton, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and many more. His approach to portraiture was as much about his technical prowess and compositional elegance as it was about his ability to elicit his subject's spirit and character, a skill that would mark him as one of the luminaries of his time, akin to contemporaries such as Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, and Diane Arbus. Yet, the pièce de résistance of Gigli's illustrious career is the iconic photograph known as "Girls in the Windows," taken in 1960. This masterwork exemplifies Gigli's innovative vision and ability to transform the everyday into a tableau vivant of unparalleled aesthetic appeal. The image depicts 43 women poised in the windows of a New York City brownstone, exuding an ephemeral vibrancy that captures the essence of 1960s fashion and art photography. Born in New York City in 1925, Gigli's passion for photography blossomed...
