This sepia toned cityscape photograph was taken by Manhattan native, James Bleecker. The architectural detail highlighted in this image is part of the steel columns that raise New York City's most beloved raised walkway, known as the High Line. This famous New York City landmark is visited by thousands on a regular basis to enjoy the views and lounge areas away from the traffic of the street below. Bleecker zeroes in on the architectural details of the steel studded columns, creating a composition that has qualities of an abstract painting. The print measures 70 x 60 inches and is made to order.
Additional sizes are also available.
Artist Statement:
The High Line’s transformation from el-train to elevated park was just underway in 2007. Inch-thick steel plates studded with rivets brought to mind the hull of an old ocean liner. Shouldered by new glass buildings, the rusting High Line dug in its heels and refused to budge. I wanted to photograph the giant before it was subdued.
"Not only does James beautifully document this complex project, he captures a sense of the tragedy of 9/11 and the uplifting spirit of the new construction and the reclaiming of the skyline."
– David Childs, architect of One World Trade Center

- Shirokuro XXVII (Black and White Abstract Photo of Lilypads on Water)By Lependorf and ShireLocated in Hudson, NYlimited edition archival pigment print, edition of 10 26 x 39 inches unframed About the work: This image of highly contrasted water lilies floating on a still water's surface is one is a series completed by the artist duo in 2008 called "Shirokuro", meaning Light and Dark. "The foundation for our work is the photographic image with the optimal quality of light. Selecting the interplay of composition, form, rhythm, and line is the focus for our imagery. Integrating these elements in the computer is the next stage in the process of merging our visual and intuitive sensibilities toward a completed vision. Different perceptual effects arise from recording the world in photographs as opposed to interpreting it in paint: Our goal is not to emulate painting. Conceptual work in all mediums has blurred the line between photographers who make art and artists who use photography." The digital medium has established itself in the natural continuum of art history and the ongoing relationship of art with technology. This work forces us to consider a more serene world while reminding us that no contemporary experience is unmediated; technology touches everything. The use of the computer as a tool does not create; it assists creativity resulting in a synthesis of disciplines to be realized as a limited edition. The combination of archival pigment inks on Crane Fine Art paper framed with archival mattes and backboards insures permanence in excess of 175 years. The creative process will always remain in the mind and the soul of the artist. About the artists: Stan Shire is Professor Emeritus and former chair...Category

- Kline Kill Road (Tranquil Landscape Photo of a Rustic Barn in Sepia tone)By James BleeckerLocated in Hudson, NYKline Kill Road archival pigment print on watercolor paper 16 x 13, edition of 25 $1500 24 x 20, edition of 25 $2500 50x40, edition of 25, $6,500 This Black and White Sepia-toned print of a barn in upstate New York was taken by photographer, James Bleecker. The rural scene depicts a pond reflecting the nearby willow tree and barn. The sunlight breaks through the clouds, casting a heavenly glow to the idyllic country setting. Artist Statement: These photographs span the last decade of nearly four that I have worked in the Hudson River valley. While I have photographed landscapes, towns and cities, I have chosen a selection of rural scenes for this show. All are in Columbia County except “Allee,” (Tuxedo Park) and Quimby Farm (Marlborough). While my Dutch ancestors settled here early - Bleecker and Verplanck are common place names - I don't know what, if any, pull that fact exerts. Certainly I'm attracted to the layers of time exposed here; in ancient stone walls, leaning barns, faded mansions and mill towns. The valley exudes boom and bust, love and leavings.
