Paul Sannemann
Paul Sannemann, Still Life With Chrysanthemums, Oil Painting

c. 1930

About the Item

This early 20th-century oil painting by German artist Paul Sannemann (1886-1943) depicts a vibrant still life with chrysanthemums. Sannemann had an eye for colour, never one to shy away from a vivid composition. Here, the blooms are effervescent, buoyant and spirited. Even more so following a recent clean. Little is known about the artist’s life but he worked predominantly in Berlin where he married Anna Ida Gebauer and had at least two children. We've been in touch with his family who shared an amusing story. Apparently his wife would bring flowers in from the garden and arrange these in a vase for him. But once she left the room, he would alter the arrangement. This is a splendid example of his work. Signed in the lower right and framed.
