About the Item
"Elegant Still Life of Two White and Gold Cups on Gray"
Olga Antonova’s subject is compositions of extraordinarily elegant and beautiful cups, plates, teapots, and dishes, but there is something whimsical about these paintings that belies their formality: stacked teacups are also amusing, having a kind of jaunty and upbeat personality of their own, polka dots are as endearing to adults as to children, and everyone responds to the 'bling' and sparkle of gold and Antonova’s seemingly effortless ability to paint these radiant details.
This painting is included in an exhibition in our Boston gallery that opened very recently which will be on view through July 1, 2018.
Antonova is one of the leading painters of still lifes in the country, and her unique works are internationally acclaimed. Commissioned paintings incorporating one’s own personal collection are also an option.
Olga Antonova was born in Volgograd Russia in 1956 and graduated from the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg in 1980. Soon after graduation she immigrated to the US and has resided in the Boston area for many years. Her works have been exhibited in 35 solo exhibitions and in over 60 group shows in the US and Europe, articles have regularly appeared in “The Boston Globe,” “American Art Collector,” “Art News” and “The Boston Herald,” and her works are included in numerous private and public collections including the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Museum, Rutgers University. Antonova is also the recipient of an Artists Fellowship in Visual Art awarded by the City of Sacramento, CA.
Olga Antonova has been represented by the Beth Urdang Gallery since 2006.

- "Cherry Cheesecake" Photo-Realist Still Life, Cheesecake Slice in Red and WhiteBy Mary Ellen JohnsonLocated in Wellesley, MAMary Ellen Johnson "Cherry Cheesecake" Oil on Panel 38 x 27 1/2 Inches Note: This painting is framed in dark cherry wood. Mary Ellen Johnson is internationally recognized as one of the top Photo Realist painters working today whose extraordinary area of expertise is images of food. Johnson actually describes herself as a ‘Precision Realist’ whose primary subject is food - cheesecakes, PB & J sandwiches, parfaits, pancakes, banana splits, ice cream, hot dogs, cupcakes, waffles, muscles, sushi, etc.. These brilliantly painted works capture every nuance and are rendered with amazing precision. Stunningly beautiful and incomparably 'real,' her paintings are a delight in terms of subject matter, color, perfect composition, and whimsy, with an approachable quality that elevates them far beyond expertly executed mechanical renderings. Unequaled for their brilliance and dramatic depictions of mundane subjects with their connotations of nostalgia, comfort and tradition, it is also her scale, cropping and extraordinary technical skill that render these works so overwhelmingly appealing. Johnson's paintings are acknowledged by the leading collectors in the country to represent the very best of the Photorealist tradition: “I make the panels large to give a monumental feeling to the painting when viewed. These large images not only confront the viewer with their size but with their tremendous sense of extravagance. My work explores the deep connection that food has with humanity.” Mary Ellen Johnson Included among the many accolades received for Johnson's work is a commission by the Canadian Government to paint 5 of Canada's favorite foods, images which were then translated into stamps, as well as a commission from The Cheesecake Factory's chain of restaurants for a "Strawberry Cheesecake with Whipped Cream" for their corporate headquarters in California. The series started following 9/11 with the bombing of the World Trade Center in NY. and continues to today. Stephanie Peek's "Uniform Language" is a constellation of small painting on alabaster-coated wood panels featuring camouflage patterns of nations worldwide. When hung in the configuration shown, the overall dimension is 77 inches tall x 132 inches wide. The artwork can hang in a variety of configurations. Each camp painting is 10 x 10 inches. Fascinated by how various countries use camouflage patterns to represent and to disguise themselves and their military equipment, the artist explores how countries see themselves in this pattern language that speaks of power and fear, while also considering each painting a prayer for peace. Artist's statement, Early in the 20th century, the United States military adapted the nature studies of American painter Abbot Thayer...Category
