"Elegant Still Life of Blue, White and Burgundy Patterned Art Nouveau Vase with Silver/Gold and Bird on Top"
Oil on Canvas
26 x 26 Inches
Olga Antonova’s subject is compositions of extraordinarily elegant, beautiful and whimsical cups, plates, teapots, vases and dishes, but there is something playful about these paintings that belies their formality. Stacked teacups are also amusing, having a kind of jaunty and upbeat personality of their own. Polka dots are as endearing to adults as to children, and everyone responds to the bling and sparkle of gold and silver while marveling at Antonova’s seemingly effortless ability to paint these radiant details. This composition of rich patterns and intricate formal detail is the perfect complement to the more minimal shape of the vase. This painting is unframed.
Antonova's paintings can be installed individually, they also work well in groupings as part of a series.
Commissions incorporating one’s own personal collection of family heirlooms is also an option.
Olga Antonova was born in Volgograd Russia in 1956 and graduated from the Repin Institute in St. Petersburg in 1980. Soon after graduation she immigrated to the US and has resided in the Boston area for many years. Her works have been exhibited in 34 solo exhibitions and in over 60 group shows in the US and Europe, articles have regularly appeared in “The Boston Globe,” “American Art Collector,” “Art News” and “The Boston Herald,” and her works are included in numerous private and public collections including the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Museum, Rutgers University. Antonova is also the recipient of an Artists Fellowship in Visual Art awarded by the City of Sacramento, CA.
Olga Antonova has been represented by the Beth Urdang Gallery since 2006.

- Apples and Glass, super real, illustionistic, colorful contemporary still lifeBy Douglas NewtonLocated in Brooklyn, NYOil paint on canvas Doug Newton’s hyper-real paintings observe reality, explore translucency, reflections and luminosity, and dazzle the viewer with all the ways light can transform our perceptions. His subject matter concentrates on still lives of food, toys, candy and household objects. In addition to many group shows across the country, Mr. Newton’s show, “HARD CANDY and other confections” represents his fifth solo exhibition. His paintings have been collected in numerous private collections. Mr. Newton resides in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Sonia Coman writes in her essay, Doug Newton’s hard candy: the confection of painting Doug Newton’s paintings are about… painting. The hyperrealist technique of trompe l’oeil or “trick the eye” is knowingly playful. It simultaneously calls attention to the illusion of a different material—for example, translucent candy wrappers—and the reality of the layers of paint, masterfully applied to the canvas. In that, Newton’s paintings pay homage to an esteemed series of trompe l’oeil masters, from Inquisition-era Spanish painter Francisco de Zurbarán to Gilded-Age American painter William Michael Harnett...Category
