A large modernist abstract oil & magna on linen landscape painting by Portland Oregon artist, Richard Arthur Muller, 1928-1961, titled "Driftline", 1981. This large modernist abstract painting is by celebrated artist Richard A. Muller and epitomizes Muller's landscapes with multi-colored layers of impasto textured levels, the painting is signed & dated lower left "R. A. Muller 81", the painting is also titled to the stretcher verso, "Driftline oil & magna on linen", and signed & dated once more. The painting was exhibited & sold at the Fountain Gallery, Portland in 1982, the Fountain Gallery was created in 1961 by champion of the arts, Arlene Schnitzer along with her mother and a close friend. The Fountain Gallery exhibited noteworthy Northwest artists such as Louis DeMott Bunce, Carl Morris, Robert Colescott, Kenneth Callahan to name just a few. He is a 2014 BFA graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a 2013 certificate graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He has also taken classes at the Grand Central Atelier. His education extends into time learning as an apprentice in Anne Harris’s mural painting studio, a 2013 internship at Sotheby’s auction house and many other experiences. Santoli’s current work and style were initially inspired by a 2018 trip to Spain and a visit to the Museo Sorolla in Madrid. He returned from Spain with a desire to paint en plein air, directly from nature and under full sunlight. In May of 2021, he was awarded the Versailles Foundation’s prestigious Munn Fellowship Artist Residency Award which will allow him to live and work in Claude Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny, France for three months in 2023.
