Sasha Rogers
Awaken - cool, gestural, seascape

2018

About the Item

The exquisite ethereal contemporary paintings of Canadian artist Sasha Rogers can be found in both private and corporate collections throughout the world. Rogers is highly regarded for her masterful use of gestural brush strokes, intense colour, light and texture inspired by the beauty of the natural world. As an artist, she has been influenced by William Turner, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Antoni Tapies and her own father, the celebrated sculptor and painter, Otto Rogers. ‘Awaken’ is rendered in blues that range from the deepest ocean blue to turquoise. What appears as a line on the horizon—a signature of Rogers' work divides the space and draws the eye towards an infinite view. Rogers spent her childhood on the prairies and the magnificence of that ‘big sky’ country has been seared in memory. “Capturing the vibrations between what hovers above and below is what inspires my work. As an artist, I commit myself to a poetic dance in the immeasurable, that place of equanimity between matter and spirit.” Sasha Rogers Sasha Rogers acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors in Drawing and Painting at the University of Saskatchewan. A Master of Visual Arts in Painting followed at the University of Alberta where she received the highest distinction given for outstanding research in visual arts. Rogers taught painting and drawing at both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto. She has had numerous solo exhibitions in Canada, has attended international art fairs and her artwork is held in many corporate collections nationwide. Private collectors span the globe including Canada, the U.S., and Europe.
