About the Item
Ross Moffett remains a legendary Cape Cod artist. Moffett painted with an intensely personal focus, composing canvases that inevitably reflected the character of his native western America and the life of the farmer, but with values transposed for the life of a Provincetown fisherman.
He attended the Art Institute of Chicago and studied with the well-known painter and teacher Charles Webster Hawthorne in Provincetown. He soon became one of Hawthorne's star pupils and gained a reputation as a young lion of the art community. For over half a century Ross Moffett lived and worked in Provincetown, painting its beaches and harbors, its fishing vessels, and its people.
Moffett expressed his understanding of life through the sheer artistic power conveyed through form and colors in his painting. This figurative landscape oil on canvas carries a compelling statement about humanity and its past.
