About the Item
"Old School Haying", is a 18x36 oil painting on board by artist Leslie Peck featuring two Amish farmers and their horses in the hay field harvesting food for their livestock. Two working horses pull a trailer stacked high with bales of cut hay while being steered by two patient farmers. An expensive view of the nearby farmland leads the eye out into the hazy horizon. Peck's use of hand-mixed paint provides a silky, buttery finish. Bright and rich green hues empower most of this beautiful landscape.
About the artist:
Leslie Anne Peck is a native of Buffalo, New York. She moved to New York City to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology where she received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Art. In 1987 Leslie spent a year studying art in Italy at the Scuola di Lorenzo De Medici in Florence and subsequently apprenticed in Rome with renowned illustrator Alessandro Biffignandi. Leslie began a freelance career in romance book cover illustration in 1988. Her career took off in romance painting and she has enjoyed two decades of success painting in that genre. While still enjoying a tremendous success in the publishing field, Leslie's love for portraiture of people and animals has found its expression in her most recent oil paintings.
Peck has been commissioned by several publishers, including Random House, Penguin Putnam, Avon Books, New American Library and Pinnacle Publishing. Her paintings are also represented globally for second right printings. Leslie has painted portraits for the Commercial Bank of Long Island, Jefferson's Ferry Life Care Co. and the Mologne House of Washington DC as well as many private clients.
After marrying and moving to the scenic Saratoga Springs area of NY, Peck has been inspired by her surroundings and has further expanded her repertoire with an intense love and study of farm animals and their environment. Using her extensive background in portrait painting, Peck is able to create classic, yet bold portraits of these beautiful animals which are packed with a stately ambiance. Utilizing strong contrasts in the light and shadow, the results are figures that jump off the canvas.
Leslie Peck’s work has been shown in an exclusive show at the Greenwich Free Library and was part of the Agricultural Stewardship Association’s, Landscape for Landsakes Show. ASA’s annual landscape and farmland art show has become the premier art show in the Washington and Saratoga region. The artist donated a significant portion of the proceeds to support ASA’s farmland protection efforts.
Additionally, she has donated her work to help raise money for Saratoga Hospital and Mary McClellan Hospital as well as a The Elisabeth Morrow School.

- Shawn Faust, "Starting Gate Sunrise" 12x16 Equine Racetrack Oil PaintingBy Shawn FaustLocated in Saratoga Springs, NYThis equine painting, "Starting Gate Sunrise" is a 12x16" oil painting on canvas by artist Shawn Faust depicting a racehorse on his way to morning workout on the track. Bright early light envelopes the horse and rider in a warm glow while trees cast long cool shadows. About the artist: Shawn’s love and fascination for drawing came as an unexpected gift from his grandfather at the age of 5. Young Faust was a tag-a-long during his grandfather’s impromptu plein air art lesson with his older brother in the back yard of his Aunt’s house. A retired director for the American Red Cross, Shawn’s grandfather, who had only recently picked up the brush himself, began a charcoal sketch that would forever change how Faust would see the world. From that brief lesson, Faust recalls vividly, “The techniques I witnessed from my grandfather that day, were pure magic!” With his newfound gift of magic, Shawn quickly began practicing his art of 3D illusion for anyone who wanted to see it. During his childhood, you would be hard pressed not to find Shawn doodling on a piece of paper at some point during the day. Among his favorite things to draw as a youngster were his comic book heroes. Intsead of reading the comics, he spent all his time studying the line work and muscle forms of the comic book characters. And so, began his interest in portraying the human form. Upon entering college at the University Of Delaware, Shawn enrolled as an accounting major yet emerged with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1990. At the U of D he is forever grateful for the privilege of studying under distinguished artists Stephen Tanis, Charles Rowe, Robert Straight...Category
