Joan Abello landscape original oil canvas painting Spanish Spain

1986

About the Item

Frameless Joan Abelló Prat He was born in Mollet del Vallès in 1922 and started from a very young age in the world of painting. Of his formative period, it is possible to emphasize the maestrazgo of Pere Pruna and Carles Pellicer, and the influence through the works that Joaquim Mir had realized in Mollet of the Vallès. Like many twentieth century artists, Abelló stayed in London, Belgium, the Isle of Man, Paris ... In the sixties, he returned to Mollet (where he is interested again in the landscapes of Vallés and the Mediterranean), but he does not abandon Great trips through Europe, Africa, Ivory Coast, Morocco or Brazil. Parallel to his artistic side, Abelló developed a passion for collecting, which began, probably, influenced by the atmosphere of Can Pellicer and the workshop of Miracle, where he learned restoration, as well as visits to the studio of Manolo Hugué. Little by little, Joan Abelló enlarges his collection, the embryo of the future museum. In 1996 he made a donation to the City Council of Mollet del Vallès for his art fund and the Joan Abelló Municipal Foundation was created, which inaugurated the Museum in March 1999. He dies on December 25, 2008 in Barcelona. He is buried in Mollet del Vallès.

  • La Porte Saint Denis, Paris - Post Impressionist Cityscape Oil by Lucien Genin
    By Lucien Génin
    Located in Marlow, Buckinghamshire
Signed oil on original canvas figures in landscape circa 1930 by French post impressionist painter Lucien Genin. The work is centred around the Porte Saint-Denis - a triumphal arch located in Paris, France. The street is bustling with city-goers and cars pass by the tall buildings painted in red, yellow and white. Signature: Signed lower left Dimensions: Framed: 27"x31" Unframed: 20"x24" Provenance: Private French collection Lucien Génin came from a family of stone-cutters. He first studied at the art school in Rouen, then in 1919 entered the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He settled in Montmartre early in the 1920s, and in 1936 moved to the Latin Quarter. Although he had received a thorough training, he created his own completely spontaneous technique aiming at approaching his subjects with a fresh look. Beside a few views of Rouen, Lorient, Dinan and Villefranche-sur-Mer, Génin specialised in the popular theme of views of Paris. He worked swiftly, making rapid jottings, and thus could produce many paintings. At auction his pictures were sometimes sold in lots. He painted both in oils and in gouache. Lucien Génin showed work at the Salon d'Automne in 1926 and 1930. His work featured at the Marcel Aymé and the Painters exhibition, Galerie Roussard...
