Carol PylantSombras des Caldes (The Shadows of Caldes) - Architectural Imagery and a Dog 2024
2024
About the Item
Carol Pylant's paintings are often devoid of humans. There is a more important role for the standing dog in "Sombras de Caldes" [Shadows of Caldes]. This is a warren hound, perhaps of the Podenco Andaluz breed, and he looks over its shoulder toward us, a companion waiting for us to join him. Maybe though, this dog is beseeching us to acts of rescue, since fires blaze in the background. Flames and smoke fill the sky beyond the bars of the metal balcony. This piece is floated in a simple wooden frame measuring 26.25 x 26.25 x 2.5 inches.

- Tricks - Original Oil Painting, Anthropomorphic Scene with Cat and SeagullBy Wendy VaughanLocated in Chicago, ILIn this fantastical painting animals reign supreme. An enrobed cat observes/directs as a seagull deftly flies through a suspended hoop. Wendy Vaughan seems to infuse her artwork with mystical powers. Backgrounds are layered with symbols and clothing vibrates with magical floating shapes. Her choice of colors are punched up to a level of saturation as to make her work seem otherworldly. Prominent colors in this painting are bright blues in the water, soft oranges in the cat's fur, and purple, gold and pink in the cat's garment. This artwork is framed in dark wood with painted gold inset. Wendy Vaughan Tricks oil on linen 23h x 29w in 58.42h x 73.66w cm Wendy Vaughan (maiden name Wendy Kornmiller) grew up in West Bloomfield, outside of Detroit, where her father was a car designer for Chrysler and one of the original designers of the Ford Thunderbird...Category

- Uscita - Large Scale Trompe L'oeil Gardenscape Inspired by Ancient Roman FrescosBy Carol PylantLocated in Chicago, IL"Uscita" takes Inspiration from ancient Italian frescos originally found at the Villa di Livia outside of Rome. The trompe l'oeil frescos were from a subterranean room used for dining. The lush gardens gave the dinner guests the illusion of dining alfresco. Here Pylant took particular notice of the flora and fauna painted over 2000 years ago only to discover they were species that were also present at her then North Carolina studio. The artist adds an architectural element to the gardenscape to suggest a portal from the past into the present. This exploration of the ancient world and its connection to the present is a central theme running through Pylant's work. Carol S.
