Artist Statement:
My current body of work deals with the idea of the modern landscape, both formally and conceptually. In this series idyllic semi abstract representations of a natural environment exist. These landscapes are however altered by human’s existence, even though often no figure is visibly present. Oil derricks and bore holes co-exist with trees, bushes, and mountains, slowly taking over their position. In the foreground the top layer of earth is peeled back, exposing the polluted after effects of fracking and the water contamination that follows. An eerily placed path crawls through the composition as a metaphor for exploring a dangerous road ahead.
Cloud compositions deal with the idea of conflict and turbulence, both domestic and abroad. These clouds also double as nebulas, contracting and expanding energy around the idea of conflict. These works deal with notions of political strife coexisting with environmental concerns, and create compositions of smaller troubled environments coexisting in larger yet equally troubled ones. There are fragmented figurative elements existing in and outside of these clouds, as well as tools, weapons, and vices. These fragments serve as visual metaphors that address specific narratives from our modern time.

- CELLO IN THE SNOW - oil, enamel, glazed ceramic and canvas on panel, texturalBy Eleanor AldrichLocated in Signal Mountain, TNA cello is held up between the legs of its accompanying musician in a snowy landscape. Snow has collected on the protruding bits of Cello and on the tops of the musician's knees. Though we can't see the face of the musician, we see their bare arms, folding upwards, as if they have buried their face in their hands. -- Building on her previous show, Main Squeeze, which featured bodies pressing through the grid of lawn chairs, in “That Feeling When,” Aldrich expands the excess of materials to large figure paintings...Category

- LAWN CHAIR ON THE BEACH - Textural Figure Painting with oil, enamel and siliconeBy Eleanor AldrichLocated in Signal Mountain, TNIn the series of paintings titled “That Feeling When,” Aldrich expands the excess of materials to large figure paintings and small, overfilled sculptures. Aldrich uses thick materials that protrude from the surface, reminding the viewer that the paintings are not only physical objects in themselves, but also create the illusion of the picture. The work employs a risky excess of material that borders on uncontrollable; becoming metaphoric for barely controlled femininity, the attraction and repulsion of materialism, and the body pressing against constraints. The figures in the paintings are seen from behind or have turned away. The viewer is put in a place of questioning whether they are a voyeur or a co-viewer with the figure of something deeper in the picture plane. The full body paintings of young women based on Nancy Drew...Category

- NANETTE (Back with Fence) - Eleanor Aldrich - Figure - Texture - ContemporaryBy Eleanor AldrichLocated in Signal Mountain, TN"Nanette (Back with Fence)" is a textural, contemporary figure painting by Knoxville based artist Eleanor Aldrich. Refusing engagement, the figure is turned away from the viewer. Further distance is created by a rugged representation of a chain link fence and layers of paint, enamel, and silicone. The only clue to the figure's gender is in the title, and the collision of industrial materials with a female representation provides a poignant conflict. Flashes of found paper provide hints of a t-shirt or other type of graphic clothing...Category

- PROM HAIR - Textured Oil Painting w/ Scene of a Girl Preparing for PromBy Eleanor AldrichLocated in Signal Mountain, TNPROM HAIR is an oil on canvas painting created by Eleanor Aldrich in 2022. This piece utilizes a thick caulk on top of the canvas as an underlayment. The texture gives the canvas an over exaggerated "tooth" that adds a sculptural quality to the painting. The scene painted is taken from a magazine in the 90s where someone is preparing a girl's hair from prom night. This piece has a nostalgic quality that is echoed by the rays of light acting as somewhat of a time-warp. PROM HAIR was featured as part of a two person exhibition with Pamela Jorden...Category
