Nude Free Woman in a Rocky Mountain Landscape

1980

About the Item

The painting reveals a nude woman, her aura exuding self-assurance. She stands upright on the rugged terrain of a rocky mountain. Her curly hair freely frames her face. The work is elegant, devoid of any hint of eroticism. Instead, it's a celebration of freedom, transcending society's taboos. There's a palpable absence of ostentation, evoking the liberating ethos of the 1970s, when society was shedding old norms and embracing new freedoms. In the distance, to the left, a small house attracts attention, prompting speculation: is it hers? Has she come all this way without clothes? Who is she? The artist does not reveal the model's emotions. Her face is almost enigmatic. Is she there? Or is it a phantasmatic apparition, like a mirage revealed in the middle of the desert? The painting’s technical precision is singular, reminiscent of a woven tapestry with contrasting elements carefully threaded in dense patterns. The vibrancy of colors and their flat tones add depth and texture, providing a visual experience similar to the warp and weft threads of a loom. The artist unites precise brush strokes and a vintage atmosphere to create a vital synergy that imparts aesthetic beauty and a trip back in time. In the distance, darker mountains appear, their peaks silhouetted against the blue sky, while the ground below seems altered, almost bleached white by the ceaseless passage of time and the seasons. The painting is eligible, signed in the top right corner, and dated 1980. It sits in a hand-carved frame with a water-gilded panel made of genuine 22k gold. t. The back of the frame is stamped " RICHARD TOBEY - Los Angeles" There is a label on the back of the frame reading: Barbizon.

  • " Tricycle and Doll" Oil on Canvas by Edgar Kiechle
    Located in Pasadena, CA
This figurative painting by Edgard Kiechle presents the scenario of a doll who is very surprised to have been abandoned into the basket of her mom's tricycle. An interesting factor is the pictorial use of angles. The point of view, a little above the stage, probably that of an adult, offers particular perspectives. This approach adds depth to this painting with distinctive compositional appeal. In contrast to the scene's disorder, a black-and-white tiled floor with a geometric design serves as an antithesis. The careful symmetry of the tiles competing with the surrounding disarray sparks a dialogue about the human need for organization and balance. In composition, absence is a living element. The exclusion of a physical human figure amplifies the feeling of emptiness, creating a human presence perceived imaginatively. Edgar O. Kiechle was born in 1911. He was a film illustrator and a painter. Edgar studied landscape painting with Jean Mannheim and architecture and became an excellent watercolorist. After studying at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, he interned with leading architects and designers. He worked at most major studios, but his career as an illustrator saw him primarily at the Universal Studio Art department. In 1933, Edgar joined Lwerks as a background artist and worked on many films produced by Animated Picture Corporation through 1935. In the summer of 1941, Edgar Kiechle...

  • Parisian Model
    By Max Weber
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
"Parisian Model" is an oil on canvas painting by Max Weber painted in 1908. The work is signed and dated, lower right, "Max Weber Paris 1908". The painting size is 35 1/2 x 19 5/8 inches. The framed size is 43 x 27 x 2 1/4 inches. "Parisian Model" was painted in 1908, when Weber participated in a life class in Matisse's studio in Paris and painted several nudes. Weber was influenced toward a more Cubist styler after seeing Cezanne's work in the 1906-07 Salon in Paris, and he consorted within avant-garde circles in Paris as early as 1905. After returning to the US in 1909, Weber was credited with showing American audiences Cubism based on his firsthand knowledge of the key players and the style. Several drawings of Weber's from this time are in museum collections at The Met, the Smithsonian, and MoMA and show a similar style and stocatto gesture. Parisian paintings by Max Weber are extremely rare as there are hardly any that have sold publicly. Provenance: Estate of the Artist Gerald Peters Gallery...
