About the Item

Josep Lloveras Feliu (1922-2014) - Virgin Mary and child Jesus - Oil on panel Oil measurements 60x49 cm. Frame measurements 68x57 cm. Josep Lloveras y Feliu, was a painter and sculptor. At the age of fourteen he began his apprenticeship as a painter. Her first contact with this world was a cartoonist who did her business in the Girona livestock market. After the Spanish Civil War ended, he arrived in Barcelona and began working "as a wall painter". He will also enroll at the Tárrega Academy and then at the Superior School of Fine Arts. During these years of apprenticeship, he filled his first canvases, basically with religious themes. Between 1945 and 1948 he traveled through different countries in an adventurous future. He traveled to Morocco, Tripoli and Paris to study at the Louvre School. In Paris he was soaked in Sastre and existentialism. During this time he made a work of erotic content signed with the name of Sarevoll (his last name Lloveras backwards). During this period he traveled to Italy, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, England and the Scandinavian Countries. In 1953 he crossed the Atlantic towards Mexico but accidentally landed in Havana. His life and his work take a new turn when he stays in Cuba. He experiences his creative maturity and achieves a very relevant role in the artistic training of the new generations of painters. In 1959 Fidel Castro came to power. That same year he met Montserrat Prat, with whom he married the following year. He travels to Venezuela and presents an exhibition at the University of Caracas with "the painter children". In 1967 he left Cuba and went to Miami. Live a brief season in Puerto Rico. In 1970 he returned to Barcelona with his family. Once established in Barcelona, he founded an art studio in the city, later opening another in Cassà de la Selva. He continues his pictorial work in both cities, but particularly in the latter where he establishes his residence. During these years he continues with his didactic work in the plastic arts. In 1980 he founded the Estudio d'Art Lloveras. From that moment his production is made entirely in Cassà de la Selva, where his work as a cultural promoter must also be highlighted. In his last thirty years he alternated his stay between Cassà and Barcelona. Very little remains of the old Parisian existentialism. The Virgin, the cherubs, the female nude, the horses, fill his pictorial universe in this period. He has used several signatures: Lloveras until 1945, Lloveras de Reina between 1946 and 1962, Sarevoll between 1949 and 1951 to sign his erotic works. Lloveras R from 1963 to 1978 and from the 80s Lloveras again.
