2022

About the Item

Bold yet delicately portrayed, "So Plant, So Animal I" is an abstract piece framed to perfection, offering a timeless neutral color palette. The central theme captures the essence of returning to one's natural state, embracing both the dangers and serenity that accompany such a journey. For a harmonious ensemble (diptych or triptych), consider pairing it with "So Plant, So Animal II" or "So Plant, So Animal III" (available separately). Hand-stretched on natural Belgian linen, the canvas boasts an Indian-ink underpainting enriched with overlays of white, adding captivating depth and texture. The canvas measures 60cm x 50cm x 2cm, embraced by a wood frame painted warm gray, with overall dimensions of 65.5cm x 54cm x 3.5cm. Evans Deventer signature stamp on back of linen features name, year (2022) and place of completion (Paris, France). "So Plant, So Animal I" invites you to embrace the beauty of nature and find solace in the acceptance of its untamed elements.

    By Nicholas Evans

TIME, IT TAKES I 2022 Paris, France A graphic and bold abstract painting on linen, with dark blue green ink and white acrylic accents. A single, bold, orange line is situated on the left side of the painting, a commentary on markers of time as an ineffective unit of measurement. Time interpreted not as linear, but an experience outside of numbers and outside of logic. Option to create a pair alongside "Time, It Takes II" (as pictured). Price and size are per painting. • "Set Us In Stone II" (abstract, pink, women, Parisian, graphic, bust, natural)
    By Nicholas Evans

SET US IN STONE II 2022 Paris, France Originally created as part of Nicholas' solo exhibition "This, and Thereafter (Plumes)," December 10, 2022 - January 7, 2023. The theme illustrated the enigmatic uncertainty around what might happen after life. A range of paintings were presented – vibrant and ethereal – touching on different aspects of this notion. Each painting had a different point of view, oftentimes focusing around the inevitability of what is to come, and if and how it influences the present. This particular piece centers around personal legacy, how you will be remembered, and how your life vanishes into an abstraction as time goes by. This notion is visualized with a bust set in stone. The technique Evans used was a mixing of water-based ink with a hint of pink, that he knew would react when overlaid with white acrylic, pulling out a lighter hue of the pink ink. The white silhouette of a portrait set in stone creates a ghostly continuation of the underlaid pattern. Option to create a pair alongside "Set Us In Stone I" (as pictured). Price and size are per painting. Evans Deventer...

  • "Lus Osculi" (Abstract Black & White, Graphic Painting, Roman-inspired, Neutral)
    By Nicholas Evans
    Located in Paris, IDF
Drawing inspiration from the ancient Roman term "Los Osculi," translating to "right to kiss," the artist delves into a compelling exploration of the past's intriguing customs. In ancient Rome, women were prohibited from drinking as it was believed to lead to adultery and even possess abortifacient properties. Consequently, the husband and male family members of an "honest" woman possessed the right to kiss her on the mouth to ensure her sobriety. The allure of fleeting kisses, whispers of scent, and the sensuality of suspicion captivated the artist's imagination. On an antique French canvas...
