Alejandra España
"Metasueño" contemporary oil surrealist landscape

2023

About the Item

This abstract landscape, as well as other pieces that are part of the exhibition called Jardín Particular (currently on display in Mexico City), arouses the artist's interest in color theory. Taking up the technique of oil on linen, Alejandra explores the way in which we perceive color and the way in which one color reacts to another. The use of oil is a "new stage" in her work since it is a material with which she is familiar, but it is now that she is taking it up again to make several pieces for this exhibition. In addition to those archaic beings characteristics of her work and her imagination, we can find many symbols in Alejandra's work, as well as references to nature, since it is a subject of great inspiration for her. Alejandra builds environments. Across media, references to bio-diversity, home, and a totemic past dance together in color and light with a unique and universally symbolic porousness. Lithe, primordial creatures scamper across surfaces before bursting into three dimensions. The sounds of crickets and birds attune our senses to often-overlooked life-affirming details. And loose, dynamic brushstrokes allude to a moment when her world began. But the compositions’ meticulously crafted supports offset this newness and improvisation. Whether a painted panel (with all sides carefully considered), a pedestal, or a wall, she painstakingly finds the entirety of her works as fully formed messages of hope.

  • "Jumpers" Contemporary Figurative Abstract Oil on Linen on Panel Framed Painting
    By Philip Buller
    Located in Baltimore, MD
"Jumpers" is a framed oil on linen on panel work by Philip Buller, depicting abstracted figures engaged in ice-skating and skiing. Buller's painterly approach to these Wintery subjects, as well as the repetitive, echoing composition evokes the nostalgia of vintage home movies or layered photography film. The vibrant, contrasting colors and figures in mid-jump create playful tension and a heightened sense of movement. This piece has an artist-supplied black frame that is in "as-is" condition. Pricing includes the pictured frame. The unframed dimensions are 65 X 80 inches. About the artist: Philip Buller was born to American diplomat parents in Delhi, India in 1954, but spent his youth mostly in northern Virginia and his ancestral home...
