About the Item

Erte Love's Enchantment, ca. 1980 Sterling silver brooch with 14K gold, onyx background and mother of pearl woman's head set with (4) full cut round brilliant diamonds 1 1/2 in diameter Limited Edition of 100 (unnumbered) Artists signature incised into the metal side; text on the underside reads reads copyright CFA STER 14K (Circle Fine Arts, silver & gold) Erté—a pseudonym for Romain de Tirtoff—was an influential 20th-century artist whose sleek aesthetic permeated the realms of 20th-century fashion, art, theatre, film, and interior design. Widely celebrated as the “Father of Art Deco,” Erté created glamorous illustrations that reflected a modern luxury and prosperity emphasized by clean lines and geometric patterns found in classical Greek pottery and Japanese woodblock prints. Born in Russia, Erté got his start as a costume designer in the workshop of famed Parisian couturier Paul Poiret, where he would dress dancers and film stars like Josephine Baker and Joan Crawford and design stage sets for Broadway productions and Hollywood films. Also a professional illustrator, Erté designed over 200 covers for Harper’s Bazaar magazine. His paintings and drawings are held in the collections of renowned institutions like the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution. Erté’s alias comes from the French pronunciation of his initials, R and T.

Limited edition Chris Whitty's Cat pendant by Grayson Perry The pendant is an exact replica of a larger piece the artist made, and it is cast in solid sterling silver with a 28" silver chain, with an oxidised finish. Hallmarked and gift boxed with a hand numbered edition card. Chain length: 28’’ Pendant width: 39mm Weight: 64g During lockdown, Grayson Perry, one of Britain's foremost artists, brought the nation together through art, helping them to unleash their creativity as part of his Channel 4 TV series made by Swan Films. Every week Grayson Perry hosted the show from his own studio, taking the country with him as he created his own new art works. Grayson and his wife Philippa talked to other famous artists and creatives about how they were spending their time in isolation and invited them to make their own works in response to this unprecedented crisis. Each week a different theme - portraits, animals, fantasy, view from my window, home, Britain - was explored. ‘When lockdown first started back in March my wife Philippa and I went for a walk around the deserted City of London one evening. We came back through Gough Square where Samuel Johnson’s house is and a sculpture of his cat Hodge. When I saw this small life-sized memorial to a pet I was inspired. I was thinking of London and its myths, like Dick Whittington whose cat has its own statue on Highgate Hill. Chris Whitty is the Chief Medical officer for England and Chief Advisor to the government during the crisis. He has become the face of the Covid pandemic...I was looking through sculptures of cats and one that really caught my eye was an Islamic...

  • A Walk in the Tuileries Gardens Paris (screenprint with silver leaf and glazes)
    By Peter Blake
    Located in New York, NY
Peter Blake A Walk in the Tuileries Gardens, 2004 26 colour Screenprint with Silver leaf and 3 Glazes Hand signed and numbered 28/200 by artist on lower front 30 1/5 × 22 1/2 inches Unframed A Walk Through the Tuileries Gardens is based on a memory of a stroll in Paris distilled through the ephemera he found along the way. ' The legendary Peter Blake, the father of British Pop Art, is renowned for his love of gathering and collecting the ephemera of life, of memories, of dreams and whimsies, sometimes mingled with those of other historical fantasists. Possessions he regards as symbolic of his relationships with his world, carefully questioning the personal significance of each object in this respect. The scraps of tickets, fragments of plastic, driftwood, pebbles and sycamore leaf in A Walk Through the Tuileries gardens are evocative and ephemeral souvenirs, gathered at the time and collated later perhaps with a whiff of romance. His image takes us, in turn, on a stroll down the wide gravel, under the autumnal trees, a lingering taste of saucisson and red wine on our palate and with a sudden impulse to take a turn on the Caroussel. This whimsical Peter Blake print would make a great gift for any Blake fan. The work is matted and unframed as it had been removed from its original frame. Measurements: Board: 30 1/8 x 22 1/2 inches Sheet: 24 x 20 inches Legendary British Pop Art pioneer British Blake was born in 1932, and after his formal training at the Gravesend School of Art, then at the Royal Academy of Art, he broke away from tradition, producing work from 1960 on that would come to define the British Pop Art Movement. He came to be known as the Grandfather of Pop Art, and his art achieved iconic status with his sleeve for The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Blake’s art draws on imagery from the popular culture of the past and present, as well as from the canon of fine art, thus creating an alternative, more democratic visual aesthetic. He freely mixes the ‘high’ with the ‘low’, ultimately inviting us to see beyond such distinctions. Always playful, and at times irreverent, he sets up the most unlikely juxtapositions across time and space, creating conversations and ‘parties’ to which all are invited. An abiding theme is an investigation, and celebration, of England and Englishness. Collage has always been a hallmark of Blake’s work, allowing him to freely mix found objects and images of people and other artworks; screenprinting, with its use of stencils and layers, lends itself perfectly to this technique, and indeed it was Pop Art that fully realised the potential of screenprinting as a medium for complex replication. Through his designs and the use of his now iconic cross-hatched etchings, he wanted to create a 20th century response to the opera and to Hogarth's 18th century idea. These cufflinks are based upon those Hockney etchings...
