About the Item
Pen and ink and watercolor on mid-weight, cream wove paper, 8 3/4 x 12 1/4 inches (222 x 312 mm). Scattered light wear along the sheet perimeter, as well as a dog-eared lower right corner with an associated nick. On the verso are multiple botanical studies in pencil, as well as the word "Canzio" written twice.
Upon close examination the viewer will discover that the two figures who are seen amongst the ruins are relieving themselves; the figure in the left image area appears to be defecating, while his friend, seen in the right of the composition is passing water.
